The Eye of the Crocodile author Val Plumwood celebrated in National Museum of Australia acquisition

Val Plumwood, the author of The Eye of the Crocodile<http://epress.anu.edu.au/titles/the-eye-of-the-crocodile>, one of ANU E Press’ most popular books on ecofeminist philosophy, has been celebrated by the National Museum of Australia’s acquisition of the five metre canoe Plumwood was paddling when she was attacked by a saltwater crocodile in 1985. The event was a turning point for the activist’s perception of the relationship between humans and the environment. The National Museum of Australia acquired the canoe in 2012, and it will remain part of the Museum’s permanent collection.

A biography of Plumwood, including details of the attack and the canoe’s acquisition, can be found on the National Museum of Australia’s website.
