An idiot at Twitter creates a hate storm
« on: September 29, 2022, 11:41:02 PM »

"Prehistorica (Christian M.) @Prehistorica_CM" writes: "Let me say this carefully. IQ is a pseudoscientific myth".

Let me say it in very simple words: "Prehistorica (Christian M.) @Prehistorica_CM" is an idiot. To say the least. To deny the existence of intelligence is about one of the most stupid things ever one can do.

Prehistorica (Christian M.) @Prehistorica_CM
By now a lot of you are aware, but for anyone in the dark, paleoartist Emily Willoughby is involved in “research” that is directly tied to eugenics, racism, and classism.

She also believes, or is at least indifferent to, the myth that intelligence has a racial component.

Let me say this carefully. IQ is a pseudoscientific myth, and the “research” she is involved in directly contributes to inequality and actively harms disadvantaged people.

She also believes that things such as aggression, political predisposition, and “misconduct” are heritable.[/b]

Thanks for informing those who are interested in paleonthology about this issue. It shouldn't be overlooked or gossiped about.
There should be no place in the scientific sphere for discourse that entertains racist narratives.

But note that he did not provide anything that would suggest she entertains any racist narratives. Almost any trait is in at least small part heritable, but that's not eugenics and is no real basis for eugenics.

Please consider a possibility that this is just cyberbulying.

About

Christian M. (Prehistorica)

I am a paleoartist from southern Ontario
, with a heavy focus on often poorly represented invertebrate taxa. I am to give them new life, and always attempt to show these long dead animals as close to their life appearance as I can. I study radiodonts and lobopodians (strange, soft-bodied invertebrates that dominated the Cambrian, and even into the Carboniferous) in my free time, becoming greatly familiar with my favourite of Cambrian subjects as well as many of their arthropod relatives, and I bring that into my art to make them as life-like as possible.

I have been drawing and painting for as long as I can remember, starting with dragons and dinosaurs since before first grade. I have always had a passion for animals, and some of my earliest memories include running small, local charity events, in an effort to raise money to help save sharks.

I try to reach into as many artforms as I can to express my admiration for extinct life - I have produced documentaries about animals like Hibbertopterus and the famous megalodon shark, and have recently been learning 3D digital art - including modelling, sculpting, and animation. Since I reintroduced myself to digital art at the beginning of high-school, I have produced illustrations for magazines, the Royal Ontario Museum (foremost being a mural of the Mistaken Point fauna for the new permanent gallery, Dawn Of Life), and paleontologists from around the world.

December 9, 2021

The Honourable Bernard Davis, Minister of Environment and Climate Change is extending congratulations to the Royal Ontario Museum’s new permanent gallery that features fossils from the Mistaken Point Ecological Reserve.

The Royal Ontario Museum unveiled the Willner Madge Gallery, Dawn of Life, this month featuring almost 1,000 fossil specimens representing over four billion years of evolution from the earliest microbes to the dawn of dinosaurs and mammals. Exceptional Canadian fossil deposits of great scientific significance, including from the UNESCO World Heritage Site at Mistaken Point Ecological Reserve, are a part of the specimens on display.

Mistaken Point Ecological Reserve is one of four UNESCO World Heritage Sites featured in the new gallery. Inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2016, the reserve is located on the south coast of the Avalon Peninsula and is home to the world’s oldest, large, complex multicellular fossils, representing the remains of soft-bodied creatures that lived 560 to 580 million years ago.

Mistaken Point’s fossils of multicellular life, such as the standing frond Charniodiscus procerus from 575 million years ago during the Ediacaran Period, are included in the new gallery.

Quote
“Congratulations to the Royal Ontario Museum for their work on the new gallery, Dawn of Life. This permanent gallery details the global history of environmental changes and mass extinctions and will help us better understand our environment and how our ecosystems first began. We are proud that fossils from Mistaken Point Ecological Reserve will help tell the story of early life and evolution on Earth.”
Honourable Bernard Davis
Minister of Environment and Climate Change
