These "granary trees" can be stockpiles of thousands of acorns, enough to last the clan of acorn woodpeckers that control it for years . During the summer they will eat bugs and whatever else they can find,plus acorns,but in the cooler months depend almost solely on their acorns

They check their acorns over the year, and those that become loose (dry out & shrink) get removed and put into a smaller, tighter hole.
They also use wood siding & telephone poles to store acorns (to the point of replacement). Cool birds, but sometimes destructive.
