Cagli (Pesaro-Urbino), 28 maggio 2017 - Tre giorni e mezzo di coma, sapendo che non c’erano speranze. Ieri mattina Francesco è morto. Colpa di un’otite curata per due settimane con l’omeopatia. L’infezione così è potuta arrivare al cervello uccidendo il piccolo. Solo un antibiotico al terzo giorno di dolore l’avrebbe salvato ma non è stato preso in considerazione dalla famiglia che si fidava solo dell’omeopata. La pediatra è stata esclusa subito e mai consultata. A nulla è servito l’intervento chirurgico e la terapia d’urto con antibiotici nel reparto di rianimazione del Salesi di Ancona.
I genitori di Francesco hanno autorizzato l’espianto degli organi, avvenuto nella notte. Daranno speranza ad almeno tre bambini in lotta contro la morte. La procura di Urbino, competente perché la famiglia del bambino abita a Cagli ed è lì che si è consumata la tragedia, ha aperto un fascicolo per omicidio colposo. Qualcuno o più di uno, che dovranno essere accertati, hanno agito con negligenza non accorgendosi del pericolo mortale che correva il piccolo. A dare spiegazioni dovranno essere i genitori e il medico Massimiliano Mecozzi. E nessun altro.
Garattini: "Via i medici che prescrivono l'omeopatia"
La famiglia Bonifazi ha ribadito dopo averlo fatto ieri al Quotidiano Nazionale di voler trascinare sotto processo il dottor Mecozzi che da circa quattro anni aveva in cura il bambino. I genitori, quarantenni, piccoli commercianti, si fidavano ciecamente di lui così come i nonni. Quello materno, Maurizio Olivieri, ha detto di non attribuire nesuna colpa all’omeopatia ma al comportamento del medico che avrebbe terrorizzato la figlia affinché non portasse in ospedale il bambino in preda al dolore: «Ci diceva che gli avrebbero dato della tachipirina causandone la sordità o addirittura un coma epatico. E questo ci ha terrorizzato bloccando ogni altra alternativa di cura». E anche alle 23.30 di martedì scorso, quando il bambino aveva perso conoscenza, la madre inviò un video su whatsapp al medico chiedendo di andare in ospedale. Lui rispose che non poteva giudicare da un video. Al loro arrivo al pronto soccorso di Urbino, era già troppo tardi.
La Tac mise subito in chiaro che i tessuti cerebrali del bambino erano stati aggrediti dal pus e che solo un miracolo poteva cambiare un destino segnato. Miracolo che non c’è stato. Due le segnalazioni alla magistratura: sia al tribunale dei minori, sia alla procura di Urbino. Che ha già nominato un consulente perché siano rispettate durante l’espianto le esigenze dell’inchiesta.
Sapendo di essere finito nel mirino prima della famiglia di Francesco e poi dei mass media, il dottor Mecozzi si è chiuso nella sua casa in campagna. Alla sua porta ieri, dove abbiamo bussato, si è presentata la moglie dicendo di voler parlare solo attraverso l’avvocato ma poi: «Siamo tutti sotto choc, credeteci. Ci dispiace ma non può essere considerato mio marito il colpevole. Ha consigliato una terapia. Ma sono momenti terribili e abbiamo bisogno di tempo e dell’avvocato prima di dire altro».
Il consigliere regionale Mirco Carloni si appella al ministro Lorenzin: «Si approfondiscano le responsabilità, questa tragedia deve essere un campanello di allarme affinché non ci siano più giovani coppie che si affidano a cure omeopatiche senza adeguati approfondimenti medici».

Cagli (Pesaro-Urbino), 28 May 2017 - Three and a half days in a coma, knowing that there was no hope. Yesterday morning Francis died. It was the fault of an otitis treated for two weeks with homeopathy. The infection thus could reach the brain, killing the little one. Only an antibiotic on the third day of pain would have saved him but it was not taken into consideration by the family who trusted only the homeopath. The pediatrician was excluded immediately and never consulted. Surgery and shock therapy with antibiotics in the resuscitation department of Salesi in Ancona was of no use.
Francesco's parents authorised the removal of the organs, which took place during the night. They will give hope to at least three children fighting death. The Urbino Public Prosecutor's Office, competent because the child's family lives in Cagli and this is where the tragedy took place, has opened a file for manslaughter. Someone or more than one, who will have to be ascertained, acted negligently not realizing the mortal danger that the child was in. The parents and the doctor Massimiliano Mecozzi will have to give explanations. And no one else.

The Bonifazi family reiterated after doing so yesterday at the Quotidiano Nazionale that they wanted to drag Dr. Mecozzi, who had been treating the child for about four years, to trial. The parents, in their forties, small traders, trusted him blindly, as did the grandparents. The maternal one, Maurizio Olivieri, said not to attribute any blame to homeopathy but to the behaviour of the doctor who would have terrified his daughter so that she would not take the child in pain to the hospital: "He told us that they would give him tachypyrin causing deafness or even a liver coma. And this terrified us by blocking any other alternative treatment". And even at 11.30 p.m. last Tuesday, when the child had lost consciousness, the mother sent a video about whatsapp to the doctor asking to go to the hospital. He replied that he couldn't judge from a video. By the time they arrived at the emergency room in Urbino, it was already too late.
The CT scan immediately made it clear that the child's brain tissue had been attacked by pus and that only a miracle could change a marked destiny. Miracle that there wasn't. There were two reports to the judiciary: both to the Juvenile Court and to the Urbino Public Prosecutor's Office. Which has already appointed a consultant so that the requirements of the investigation are respected during the explantation.

At his door yesterday, where we knocked, his wife showed up and said she wanted to speak only through the lawyer but then: "We are all in shock, believe us. We are sorry but my husband cannot be considered the guilty party. He recommended therapy. But these are terrible times and we need time and the lawyer before we say anything else".
