"No head massage or neck cracks, says Army to its barbers"
The advisory says, a "'neck crack' from the barber after a "head massage"
could damage the phrenic nerve that controls the diaphragm which in turns
controls breathing. It can also lead to dissection of the vertebral artery."

There is also a news story in "The Hindu" today, about a 38-year-old man,
who had a stroke as a result of the barber's cracking his neck:
"the sudden turning of the head and the crack had resulted in dissection of the major
artery supplying blood to the brain"

"Cracking the neck" has been practiced by Indian barbers probably long before D D Palmer invented the "chiropractic" "adjustment" technique in 1897.
