Homeopathy can be helpful for aggression and growling in children

IN BRIEF
A 4-year-old boy with sleep and behavioural problems, including aggression and violence towards school mates, hiding under tables and growling, improves nicely with a homeopathic remedy made from the saliva of a rabid dog, Lyssinum.
By Dr. Anke Zimmermann, ND, FCAH
Sleep and Behavioural Problems
Jonah, a nearly 5-year-old boy, was brought in because of sleep and behavioural problems on October 6, 2018.

https://www.drzimmermann.org/uploads/8/2/6/0/82607374/adobestock-26647788_1_orig.jpeg

"It takes him 2-3 hours to fall asleep at night. He is restless and irritable and thrashes around in bed. It's a battle every night and has been for the past 3 years", his mother reported.

"We go through the same routine every evening, bath, brushing teeth, stories, bed at 7:30 - 7:45, but he's still up by 9:30 - 10 pm, flipping around, blankets everywhere. Then he is so tired on waking the next day."

I ask him why he can't sleep and he tells me: "I'm afraid there are wolves outside, werewolves."

"Yes, he's been complaining about this for the last six months and wants the curtains drawn real tight every night because of that."

Meanwhile, he discovered a little wolf-puppet toy I have in my office.

"What is this?" He asks, not entirely comfortable. "It's a little wolf", I answer. He almost shudders. "I'm scared of it and of wolves. I'm also afraid of zombies, they eat brains," he adds. "And ghosts."

"And he's afraid of the dark, he needs a nightlight", his mother adds.

I notice that he speaks very well and is very agile and comment on it. His mother tells me that he loves to climb and breakdance.
Growling like a Dog
There are problems with his behaviour. His school is complaining that he will hide under tables and growl at people. Apparently this can happen several times a day. The teachers think he may have Oppositional Defiant Disorder because he is defiant and also has trouble focusing. At home the parents are using de-escalation techniques to help him cope but the school is not as proficient at this.

The parents can't take him to birthday parties or go out with him because he gets too excited and is hard to control.

At this point I asked his mother if Jonah had ever been bitten by a dog. Indeed, the answer was yes, he was bitten when he was two years old by a dog on a beach. The dog bit his hand because he wanted the food Jonah had. The bite broke the skin.

"How do you feel about dogs now?" I ask him. "They growl", he answers.

His mother tells me that he has been growling for about 1.5-2 years now. It was an issue at his preschool already.

"How do you feel when you growl?"

"Like there is a tornado inside me. My spirit is a hurricane!"
Other History
The pregnancy was uneventful but he was a planned C-section. Jonah was a calm and content baby. His mother sleep-trained him when he was 7-8 months old. It took a few nights but he was able to then go to sleep on his own when placed in his crib. He was a good traveller as well.

He stopped napping at 1.5 years old. I notice that he breathes in a loud way. He likes meat, especially hamburgers, hot dogs, red meat and meatballs as well as berries and candy.
Analysis and Plan
Lyssinum or hydrophobinum is a homeopathic remedy related to rabies, wolves and werewolvesWerewolves are shape-shifters

This is a 4-year-old boy who is suffering from an inability to fall asleep at night, a fear of the dark, of wolves, werewolves, ghosts and zombies and who frequently hides under tables and growls at people. He is overly excitable and has a tendency to defiance. He was normal as a baby, not affected by sleep or temper problems.

There is a history of a dog bit which drew blood. I decided to give a homeopathic remedy made from rabies.
The dog who bit him may have recently been vaccinated with the rabies vaccine or the dog bite in and of itself may have affected the boy with the rabies miasm. Either is possible and the phenomenon is welll-known in homeopathy.

An animal bite, especially one who may have a history of rabies or rabies vaccination may imprint a rabies type of state which can include over-excitability, difficulties sleeping, aggression and various fears, especially of dogs or wolves. This child presented a perfect picture of the rabies state.

Plan: Lyssinum 200CH, 2 pellets.

Within a minute or two of giving him the remedy Jonah smiled at me very broadly and beautifully, as if all the lights had just gone on. We said our good byes and I felt a warm feeling of hope for this boy.
One Week Later
I saw Jonah's mother a week later by herself. There was good news: "His restlessness is much better! And oddly enough, he now wants to be a werewolf for Halloween, he told us that he is not afraid of werewolves anymore."

"And there have been no complaints from his teachers this week. He is still growling when he's angry, but overall he seems to be lighter and happier. Usually his brother and him fight quite a bit but he has been calmer this week, more relaxed."

I asked her to tell me more about her other concerns about Jonah:

"He has a tendency to be attracted to dark and evil things, is intrigued by bad guys. Socially he has diffculties, he pushes people and they don't react very well. Then he is an outcast and does not have any friends. He can disrupt what others are doing. He is sweet and loving and he feels comfortable but has a fascination with people getting hurt. We can't understand where this is coming from, we don't allow violent shows on TV or video games."

"He is very quick to anger, like a switch being flipped. He can get very, very angry, his eyes change. He says there is fire in his eyes. He becomes a different person."
My Little Puppy Dog
"Also, he does not like to be kissed or cuddled but will come up to me and sniff me, nuzzle me and lick me like a dog. And to love to play games of fetch, I can throw toys and he will retrieve them for hours. He likes it if I call him my puppy dog."

The plot thickens, we were on the right track with the remedy. Jonah was obviously in a dog state, slightly rabies-flavoured dog state to be more precise.

Jonah's mother told his Dad what happened in our visit and about my dog-bite analysis. Turned out that he had been bitten many times by dogs as a child and in fact, his grandfather's dog was put down for biting him so often.
Three Weeks after Treatment
I contacted Jonah's mother to see how he was doing and she wrote: "Though his fears at nighttime and growling still seem to have been greatly reduced, unfortuately, this past week was tough for Jonah behaviourally. At school he had many seemingly unprovoked violent and aggressive outbursts towards other children. At home, he was not aggressive but certainly seemed very tightly-wound and slightly manic. He was having difficulty focusing and following any type of direction." I had given his mother an extra dose of the remedy to take home in case of just such a need and instructed her to administer it to him.
Three months later
Homeopathy in Victoria, BC
This boy showed affection mostly with dogs

"There have been pretty big improvements", his mother reported. "The fears of wolves and werewolves is completely gone, now he is complaining more about the dark and cracks in a dresser. His sleep has been great, but the last two weeks he seems a bit more unsettled. Things at school calmed down but for the past two weeks or so he is more aggressive again with kids there and is hitting and kicking. The school connected us with a special ed coordinator."
"Not much growling at all, only once last week. Before he did it every day to alternate days and it would stay like that. We would tell him to stop growling but he would not stop. He'd also refuse to talk and just growl."

"He stopped hiding under the tables at school, but that also has just come back a bit and the teachers are worried again."

"He's still pretending to be a puppy dog. Last night he wanted belly rubs. He just loves dogs. The only time I see him really give affection is when he is with a dog."

"He loves to run up to me like a dog, scampering and sneaking up on me."

"I forgot to tell you something: After the first dose of the remedy Jonah kissed me on the cheek a couple of times - he has not done that since he was a baby, only puppy dog licks and nuzzles. The kisses happened two days after the remedy. "

"I was reviewing old videos of him from when he was one-two years old and he was so calm! He was so calm as a baby."

"At home he likes to snuggle with a big soft fake fur blanket and his pyjamas are a cheetah costume. "
Assessment and Plan
It is obvious that the remedy worked very well for Jonah and he has been quite well for over two months. Now he is starting to relapse, which is expected. Children usually need several doses of the correct remedy over a period of months to years to completely recover. The mother shared some useful additional information about our little puppy dog boy, including that he only shows real affection with dogs and his father was also repeatedly bitten by a dog, which may have contributed to Jonah's state as well.

I gave a dose of Lyssinum 10M.

A week later his mother wrote:

"Since our last meeting Jonah seems to have settled down significantly. The 3-4 days immediately following the appointment were tough as he was very agitated, angry and aggressive (which you had explained might happen.) He did, however, calm down and has had big improvements again. He is even showing more emotion and vulnerability which is refreshing to see. Night times are still a bit of an ongoing battle but nothing too disruptive."

The comment on the increased emotionality and vulnerability is especially interesting, The way I see it, he is coming back into a more human state from a slightly rabid dog state.
Discussion
Now it is time to sit back and wait for the remedy to continue it's work. It's possible that Jonah may need a few more doses of Lyssinum or maybe other remedies in the future.

Isn't it interesting that a behavioural and sleep problem can be linked to a dog bite? Not something a psychologist or medical doctor would pick up on, but a homeopath will easily make the connection between the child's state, the history of the bite and this particular remedy.

People who need Lyssinum, also known as Hydrophobinum, are often afraid of the dark, of dogs, even of water, have trouble falling asleep and are overly excitable. Aggression can also be a strong feature as can dreams of dogs, wolves and being attacked. This can even develop towards full psychosis.
Homeopathy for rage and aggression, Victoria, BC

Just think about how a dog  who becomes infected with rabies might feel - scared and aggressive at the same time. A rabid dog will certainly growl at and try to bite other animals or people. Plus, it does not want to bite it's master, but can't help itself. Wolves are natural hosts for rabies and the whole mythology around werewolves may be directly linked to rabies.
Wolves are not normally aggressive to humans, but a rabies-infected wolf can be highly aggressive, a totally different creature, a shape-shifter. The bite of a werewolf can also turn other creatures into werewolves. The mythology around vampires is very similar.

Bottom line: Homeopathy can work wonders for children with behavioural disorders if the remedy can be clearly perceived. I have seen a number of similar cases over the years which helped me to recognize the remedy in this case so quickly. Lyssinum aka Hydrophobinum is only one of many remedies that can be helpful for children with rage, aggression and various behavioural disorders. There are many others. Treatment always needs to be individualized.

I invite you to read the other cases on my website and if you know of anyone who might benefit from homeopathy, please let them know about this. Why let a child suffer needlessly when there is simple, inexpensive (the remedy cost about $15 so far)  and logical solution to the problem!

The HuffPo article mentions two important institutions: College of Naturopathic Physicians of British Columbia and Health Canada.

The article ends like this:

https://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2018/04/12/naturopath-rabid-dog-saliva_a_23409849/

Despite the criticism she faced, Zimmermann and her treatment are both legit, according to the College of Naturopathic Physicians of British Columbia.

"Dr. Anke Zimmermann is licensed to practise naturopathic medicine in B.C.," Phillipa Stanaway, Deputy Registrar, College of Naturopathic Physicians of British Columbia, told HuffPost Canada in an email.

"Lyssinum is not excluded from the pharmacopoeia for naturopathic doctors in B.C. Homeopathy, which includes the use of substances such as lyssinum, is a traditional modality with a long history in the naturopathic scope of practice; it is still used by some naturopathic doctors today."

Lyssin, lyssinum, or hydrophobinum, is "saliva of a rabid dog," according to Health Canada. It is in a list of homeopathic medicines "found in accepted homeopathic pharmacopoeia and covered by the Regulations," Health Canada says on their website.

New restrictions on British Columbia naturopaths

The College of Naturopathic Physicians of British Columbia, which is mandated to protect the public interest by ensuring that naturopaths

and prohibited the advertising or offering of CEASE therapy, which involves homeopathically diluted

versions of recommended vaccines in combination with vitamin C, minerals, and fish oil. The new immunization standard states that naturopathic doctors must not:

Provide patients and/or the public at large with "anti-vaccination" and/or "anti-immunization" materials or materials regarding potential risks and harms of vaccination, whether online or in print, other than what is necessary to obtain informed consent to immunizations
Feature "anti-vaccination" and/or "anti-immunization" content in their advertising and/or marketing material
Counsel against immunizations and/or vaccinations without a sound and properly documented medical rationale for doing so.
The College prohibited CEASE therapy because:

Long-acting reversible contraceptives highlighted

A new clinical insight paper reviews the features of long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARC), debunks misunderstanding of LARC, describes noncontraceptive benefits associated with LARC use, considers LARC use under special circumstances, describes patient-centered counseling and shared decision-making issues, and offers this summary:

There are 6 FDA-approved LARC devices: 5 IUDs (1 copper, 4 levonorgestrel-containing) and 1 subdermal progestin implant. LARC has excellent efficacy (>99%), high continuation rates, and multiple noncontraceptive benefits, yet is underutilized in the United States. Use of an IUD alone does not increase the long-term risk of pelvic infection or infertility. LARC use decreases the absolute risk of ectopic pregnancy. Adolescents and nulliparous women can safely use IUDs. Noncontraceptive benefits of the levonorgestrel-containing IUD include decreased blood loss and protection from endometrial proliferation. LARC provides excellent options for patients with medical conditions that preclude the use of estrogen. Counseling about LARC should be noncoercive via shared decision-making and within the context of patient preferences and medical history.

CEASE Therapy - Misconceptions and Truths

IN BRIEF
CEASE Therapy is suddenly receiving media attention as well-funded skeptics groups are trying to discredit and limit access to homeopathy and homeopathic remedies around the world. I became a target as I am an advocate for the system. For the interested party, here is a short summary of what CEASE is and isn't and what I do and don't do and why certain quarters feel so threatened by it.
By Dr. Anke Zimmermann, ND, FCAH
Tinus Smits
1) CEASE is an acronym for Complete Elimination of Autism Expression. A Dutch medical doctor and homeopath named Tinus Smits called it that. Why I don't know. When I first read about CEASE I was a bit taken aback by the name because it seemed to make a bold claim, so I understand why it has become a target. Perhaps a different name would have been better. Maybe it should be renamed. Maybe it really works that well but we don't have enough research to prove it at this time. In any case the name is a problem to the extent that our own Naturopathic College has now forbidden us to use it in our advertising. Understandably.
No Promises
2) That being said, I have personally never claimed or promised that any treatment I use in my practice can 'cure' anything. The press is misrepresenting this and I am now looking into legal remedies to defend myself.  Headlines like: "Naturopath boasts of curing child with rabid dog saliva' and 'Naturopaths promise complete elimination of autism' are misleading and untrue as well as defamatory.

Just because I may use a method called CEASE Therapy does not mean I promise that it will eliminate or cure any or all cases of autism. Tinus didn't claim that either. I am very clear with my patients that any autism treatment takes time, often 1-4 years or more. Younger children are more successfully treated with any autism therapies, whether that is ABA, OT, biomedical care or homeopathy.  Prognosis is better with early intervention as the brain is more plastic and is still growing more quickly. So a child less than two years old has a much better chance of substantial recovery than a 15-year-old for example.
Combination of Homeopathy and Nutrition
3) CEASE is nothing new really. It's just a combination of various homeopathic approaches together with diet suggestions and certain nutritional supplements. What made CEASE unique in the homeopathic world when it was published in 2010 was this combined approach. In classical homeopathy usually only one remedy is given at a time and supplements are not used.  In naturopathic medicine on the other hand, such combined protocols are very common. Different strategies can work well together and enhance each other. Tinus came up with a good protocol for autism and related disorders.
Research
4) Research: I would like nothing better than to see research on CEASE, homeopathy etc. We urgently need this kind of research, but it takes resources. I'd like to invite any agency, doctor, research group etc to give me a few children with autism to treat with homeopathy etc in addition to conventional care. Two groups, one gets homeopathy/CEASE etc with the regular care, the other doesn't. Let's see how they are doing a year or two down the line.
Picture

Not About Claiming that Vaccines Cause Autism
5) CEASE is not about claiming that vaccines cause autism, it's much more complex than that.

Autism, just like other conditions, is mostly related to predispositions. Most everyone has inherited tendencies towards different health conditions.

For example, if a child with a tendency to auto-immune conditions gets a vaccine, or too many vaccines at the wrong time, perhaps when the system is already under stress or nutritionally deficient and/or the child was exposed to other chemicals or interventions, an accumulation of stressors may occur, which might potentially lead to auto-immune phenomena, one of which could be autism.
Tinus never claimed that vaccines per se cause autism, neither do I. If it was, all vaccinated children would have it and they don't. There are also unvaccinated children who develop autism, usually because of exposure to other potentially harmful substances.

It is never that simple and a disservice to the public by the media to present it that way. Some children are susceptible to vaccine injury and exposure to multiple stressors increases risk. Now that sounds quite different than 'vaccines cause autism', doesn't it?
An Accumulation of Stressors
6) Tinus wrote about 'an accumulation of stressors'. At some point the system gives. We now expose our unborn and young children routinely to many medical interventions, from ultrasounds to anaesthetics during C-sections, to antibiotics or other drugs given to the mother while pregnant.

When the baby is born he or she gets a vitamin K injection and in some countries Hep B or TB vaccine injections at birth or shortly after. Although well-meaning, all of these vaccines and even vitamins contain various chemicals, including preservatives. We actually do not know what kinds of long-term effects they can have on the developing brain because nobody has looked. At two months the vaccinating starts and more pressure is added with antibiotics, Tylenol, pesticides in our food and more. Add vitamin D deficiency (research shows that children born in the winter at a higher risk of autism) and other nutritional deficiencies, bottle feeding, flame retardants in the mattress and off-gassing from new furniture perhaps and we have a perfect storm.
Picture

Then we wonder why we are seeing such a dramatic increase of autism and other developmental disorders?

The developing nervous system is exquisitely sensitive to toxins in utero and in the first 2-3 years of life. 70% of our brain grows in the first 3 years of life!

We should take every step possible to protect it.

Tinus Smit's protocol is elegantly designed to address the impact of various toxins as well as the underlying susceptibility of the system.

Read Tinus' book yourself to see for yourself what he wrote. It was such an eye-opener for me, it could be for you as well.
The Threat of Homeopathy
7) Homeopathy has been under attack by the pharmaceutical industry from it's inception. It's the competition, and there is no real money in it. People could get and stay well without drugs and that's just bad for business. That simple.

Just to clarify; am I to infer from your post that the CEASE protocol has not been rigorously tested against a control group?

Dr. Brosseau,
Thank you for your inquiry. No, this protocol has not been formally tested against a control group. Tinus Smits wanted to do this, but died before he had a chance. Obviously this is part of why the name of the therapy is problematic, if we had this research and were able to formally document the success of the therapy then the name of it might not be a problem and in any case it would open the door to a very useful treatment approach to children on the spectrum. We urgently need this kind of research and I would love to be involved. Maybe you could help to start such a study?

Formal Complaint against BC's Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry, re Homeopathy

7/7/2018

Bonnie Henry, PHO publicly misrepresents homeopathy

IN BRIEF
Dr. Bonnie Henry, our recently appointed Provincial Health Officer, BC's top public health official, has gone on public record to malign homeopathy. Among other things she publicly stated that homeopathy was "a belief system" and not scientific. She expressed "grave concern" about the homeopathic remedy Lyssinum which I used to treat a child in my practice. Her call for Health Canada to investigate caused an international media furor. In response formal complaints have been filed against Dr. Henry with the Ministry of Health, MLAs of BC and the Premier. I encourage you to do the same.
By Anke Zimmermann, ND
International Attacks on Homeopathy, Echoed by BC's Top Doc
As some of you know our own top public health official, Dr. Bonnie Henry, has gone on record in recent weeks to malign homeopathy, calling it a 'belief system' and at the same time expressing 'grave concerns's about the safety of homeopathy.

Dr. Henry's inappropriate comments and demand for Health Canada to investigate my use of Lyssinum, a homeopathic remedy made from rabid dog saliva, which is legal in Canada and has been safely used for over 200 years caused an international media feeding frenzy awash in rabid commentary by the CBC, Global News, the Washington Post, the Seattle Times among many other news outlets.

As a result of this widely publicized media attack on homeopathy and alternative healing therapies, letters of complaint have been sent to BC's Minister of Health, Adrian Dix and to the MLAs and Premier of BC.
Please feel free to borrow information from these letters and use them as a template if you wish to register your own complaint with the BC Ministry of Health against the actions taken by our Provincial Health Officer that serve to restrict our rights and options to make our own informed medical decisions.
It is important for us to speak up because there is an international effort to restrict our choices in health care and especially to eliminate homeopathy by the pharmaceutical industry and their minions. Bonnie Henry has now shown her true colours and joined their ranks.

The first letter was sent by Ted Kuntz, father of a neurologically-injured child, a medical choice activist, author and educator. Because he included a large section on vaccine science I can not republish it here due to the new gag order from my own College that now prohibits us from sharing and information regarding vaccine safety on our website. However, you can read the entire letter here.

The second letter was written by the local chapter leader of the Weston A. Price Foundation and deals specifically with the question of nutrition on the health of British Columbians. You can read it here.

The third was written by me and focuses on homeopathy. It includes extensive references, including studies on effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of homeopathic medicine and its international use by governments around the world, see below .
Formal Complaint - Provincial Health Officer
The Honourable Adrian Dix, Minister of Health
Government of British Columbia
Room 337 Parliament Buildings
Victoria, BC, V8V 1X4

July 7, 2018

Dear Health Minister Dix,

I am writing to add my voice to the recent letter sent by Ted Kuntz (you can read it here)  questioning whether Dr. Bonnie Henry is fulfilling the responsibilities of the Provincial Health Officer as outlined in the Public Health Act, which include the following:

Provide independent advice to the Ministers and public officials on public health issues.
Monitor the health of the population of British Columbia and advise, in an independent manner, the ministers and public officials on public health issues and on the need for public health related legislation, policies and practices.
Recommend actions to improve health and wellness in BC.
Deliver reports that are in the public interest and annual reports on the health of the population and government’s progress in achieving population health targets.

Misleading the Public
In addition to not fulfilling her obligations as PHO I am contending that she is actively misleading the public on homeopathy, a discipline in which she has no training or experience. Misleading the public as a physician constitutes professional misconduct and I will be filing a complaint with the College of Physicians and Surgeons in this regards as well.

This is most unfortunate as homeopathy in particular has a lot to offer any country. Not only does homeopathy offer safe and effective treatment of virtually any health condition, it can also be used to prevent illness, including infectious disease and has been shown to reduce health care costs, something I want my government to take seriously. It’s great that BC is going to slash our MSP payments, but not at the expense of increasing property and other taxes. Why not use a better, less expensive health care model that does not primarily benefit a few large pharmaceutical corporations but actually works for the people of BC?

To briefly refer back to Mr. Kuntz’ letter:

In recent weeks Dr. Henry has been featured in a number of CBC articles, which appear to discredit and discourage the use of natural methods of treatment. A brief summary is listed below. A full listing is attached.

Provincial health officer has 'grave concerns' about naturopath's claims in blog post - CBC News · Apr 16, 2018

Homeopathy for autism 'certainly not based on science,' B.C. health official says · CBC News · May 25, 2018

Dr. Henry is reported to have made statements such as:

Henry said she had "grave concerns" about those claims and was not aware of any scientific evidence to support them (homeopathy).

"It's hard for me to believe as a physician that anything that was made from a very serious lethal infection … would have any therapeutic benefit," she said.

"I also have concerns that this would be used for treating what sounds very much like a behavioural issue in a young child."

"I have concerns that parents may want this type of treatment for their children, and delay accessing real treatments that may help them for some very severe conditions," she said.

B.C.'s top doctor says there are "huge potential harms" connected to a homeopathic treatment based on the unfounded claim that vaccines cause most cases of autism.

"It's (homeopathy) certainly not based on science. It's based on a belief system," Henry said.
Homeopathy is not a belief system
I would really like to know what kind of training Dr. Henry has in homeopathy and why she thinks she should make any statements about such an intricate therapeutic system as homeopathy without it.

Homeopathy is not a belief system, as Dr. Henry claims, but a very complex and scientifically substantiated medical system which has been in use for over 200 years.

Homeopathy is a form of alternative medicine, first proposed by the German physician Samuel Hahnemann in 1796. It is based on the similarity principle, which states that a substance that can cause symptoms in a healthy organism can be used to treat similar symptoms in a sick one if the substance is prepared in a homeopathic form by sequential dilution and agitation. The final products contains either only very small doses of the original substance, or in any potency past the 12CH, none of them. The appropriate homeopathic medicinal product aims to stimulate the body’s inherent forces of self-recovery. There are more than 7000 individual homeopathic remedies available at this time, made from plant, mineral and animal substances. Remedies are prescribed on very individualized basis.

Homeopathy is recognized by the World Health Organization as the second largest system of medicine in the world. It is estimated that 500 million people use homeopathy in more than 80 countries, and that 1 in 12 use homeopathy worldwide.

Conventional medicine also uses highly diluted substances for therapeutic and preventative purposes, including vaccines and allergy desensitization.

The usual argument against homeopathy offered by skeptics is that there is nothing in homeopathic remedies and that therefor they can at best be placebo and at worst a waste of money.

Dr. Henry’s expressed concerns about the safety of homeopathy, whether of Lyssinum or any other remedy, are therefore completely unfounded and entirely misleading of the public, as well as just plain illogical, how can homeopathy be just a belief system on the one hand and somehow a horrible threat to human health due to toxicity on the other?

How can Dr. Henry she be giving independent advice to Ministers and other public health officials if she clearly holds such biased and uninformed views? And lacks the ability to think rationally? Do we want someone like her in charge of BC’s public health?

I was born and raised in Germany where homeopathy is far more integrated into the health care system and many MDs practice it. Every medical student is required to take courses in homeopathy at medical school. It is therefore difficult for me to witness this blatant ignorance and the frequent attacks on homeopathy by the media and by public health officials here in Canada.

Homeopathy is well-documented scientifically. There are hundreds of published studies documenting homeopathy’s effectiveness in not only human beings, but also plants, animals, bacteria and tissue cultures, https://www.drzimmermann.org/homeopathy-clinical-research-studies.html.
Homeopathy around the world

I was born and raised in Germany where homeopathy is far more integrated into the health care system and many MDs practice it. Every medical student is required to take courses in homeopathy at medical school. According to a 2010 article in the British Medical Journal, an impressive 57% of people in Germany use homeopathic medicines.
Surprisingly, some German politicians recently sought to stop governmental reimbursement for homeopathic treatment. Much to the surprise of these politicians, however, the German Medical Association has announced its support for homeopathy and for reimbursement for homeopathic care.

92% of doctors working with top German soccer teams prescribe homeopathic medicines for the players.

According to Deutsche Welle (a leading mainstream news source in Germany), 92% of doctors who work for the national German soccer team and the top two German football leagues (Bundesliga 1 and 2) use homeopathic remedies to keep their players healthy and fit.  The lead researcher, Peter Billigmann, when interviewed by popular German magazine, Der Spiegel, said, “The success stories are impressive…homeopathic substances don’t have any side effects, and we’re on the safe side where doping is concerned.”

Switzerland
Picture

Switzerland, a country respected for its neutrality, financial institutions and, let’s not forget, chocolate, has embraced homeopathy.

Beginning in 1998, the government of Switzerland decided to broaden its national health insurance to include
certain complementary and alternative medicines, including homeopathic medicine, while commissioning an extensive study on these treatments, called the Health Technology Assessment, to determine if they were effective and cost-effective.

Ultimately, a report on homeopathic medicine was released and subsequently published in book form in English titled Homeopathy in Healthcare, Effectiveness, Appropriateness, Safety, Costs, Bornhoft and Matthiessen, 2011, https://www.springer.com/gp/book/9783642206375#aboutBook.

This breakthrough report affirmed that homeopathic treatment is both effective and cost-effective and that homeopathic treatment should be reimbursed by Switzerland’s national health insurance program.

This report evaluated systematic reviews and meta-analyses, outcome studies, and epidemiological research, as well as cost analyses. This is where things get very interesting, as homeopathy was found to be more cost-effective than conventional medicine.

Drawing cost data of participating physicians from Swiss health insurers, this review included all expenditures covered from consultation costs (diagnostic and therapeutic procedures), costs for medication (directly dispensed or prescriptions), costs for external laboratory analyses, and costs for physiotherapy.

Cost savings with homeopathy

The Swiss report found that total practice costs for physicians who specialized in homeopathic medicine had an overall 15.4 percent reduction in overall health care costs associated with their practice, as compared with physicians who practiced conventional medicine as well as those physicians who practice other “complementary and alternative medicine” treatments (but not homeopathic medicine). The significant reduction in health care costs from homeopathic treatment represents a potential savings in hundreds of millions of dollars or more in many countries.

As health care costs are rising annually in BC, should our PHO not be interested in advising the public and government of the fact that homeopathy has been proven to reduce costs compared to conventional medications?

Further, six out of seven controlled studies discussed in the report that compared homeopathic treatment with conventional medical treatment showed homeopathy to be more effective than conventional medical interventions (the one other trial found homeopathic treatment to be equivalent to conventional medical treatment). All of these results from homeopathic treatment came without the side effects common to conventional drug treatment.

In evaluating only the randomized placebo controlled trials, 12 out of 16 studies showed a positive result in favor of homeopathy.

This significant 15 percent saving from homeopathic care was confirmed by an independent Dutch study that analyzed claims from a major health insurer which also found a 15 percent reduction in health care costs associated with alternative medical care by physicians who were trained in homeopathic medicine, acupuncture, or anthroposophical medicine (Kooreman, Baars, 2011). https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21695547.

The authors wrote: “Since the differences are obtained while controlling for confounders including neighborhood specific fixed effects at a highly detailed level, the lower costs and longer lives are unlikely to be related to differences in socioeconomic status.”

Longer lives

The health economists who conducted this research concluded that the lower costs resulted from fewer hospital stays and fewer expensive prescription drugs. It is of further importance to note that the authors also found that patients who go to physicians who practice complementary and alternative medicine live longer lives.

The Swiss government’s report on homeopathy also referenced numerous studies that evaluated the cost-effectiveness of homeopathic vs. conventional medical care for people suffering from specific health problems, including female fertility, rheumatoid arthritis, otitis media, respiratory allergies, and dyspepsia.

Of special significance was the truly substantial difference between the costs of homeopathic treatment of women experiencing fertility problems as compared with women seeking conventional medical care.

A study of children with upper respiratory tract infections found that children who received homeopathic treatment had fewer recurrences and lower antibiotic consumption than children using conventional treatment.

Reduced need for pharmaceutical drugs

Further, an economic assessment of 569 patients with rheumatic disorders found that 29 percent could stop taking their conventional medications, 33 percent could reduce their dependence on drugs, and only 6 percent chose to increase their medication once homeopathic treatment began.

Note to BC: This would certainly save health care costs both for the government and individuals as well as health insurance companies.

A report from the German government was also cited in this Swiss study because it compared hospitalization rates of female patients who sought care from conventional physicians as compared with those females who were treated by homeopathic physicians. This study found that female patients were six times more likely to be hospitalized from conventional physicians as from homeopathic physicians.

Fewer sick days

In addition to reduced health care costs from homeopathic treatment, the report also noted reductions in various indirect costs, including some studies showing reduced days off from sickness in those patients under homeopathic care.

The Swiss report further discovered that patients reported better quality of the patient-physician relationship and fewer adverse side effects with physicians who practiced complementary and alternative medicine (CAM), thus, leading the report to conclude higher cost-effectiveness for this type of medical practices.

This study also discovered that patients who sought treatment from a conventional doctor had almost four times as many serious side effects as those who sought homeopathic treatment.

Why, in this day and age, would a country like Canada and a province like BC not want to follow suit and widely embrace and promote homeopathy instead of having its PHO dismiss and malign it? Please, Mr. Dix, in your reply, answer this question for me.
France
Picture

According to a survey derived from the French government’s record of the prescribing habits of French physicians, 95% of French pediatricians, dermatologists, and general practitioners prescribe homeopathic medicines!

Further, 43% of ALL health and medical professionals in France prescribe homeopathic medicines for their patients.

In approximately half of the instances in which a homeopathic medicine was prescribed, a conventional drug was also prescribed.  This statistic therefore means that approximately half of the times a homeopathic medicine was prescribed, the health and medical professional believed that homeopathic treatment was sufficient and the patient did not require a conventional drug.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25921648

The World Health Organization (WHO) has deemed France to have the best health care in the world, and obviously, the consistent and persistent use of homeopathic medicines by medical professionals and by the general public help to contribute to the health of the population of France.

For the record, Her Royal Majesty, Queen Elizabeth’s personal physician is a homeopathic medical docto, Dr. Peter Fisher, MD. Dr. Fisher currently serves as Clinical Director and Director of Research at the Royal London Hospital for Integrated Medicine (RLHIM)
The RLHIM) is the largest public-sector provider of integrated medicine in Europe. It offers an innovative, patient-centred service integrating the best of conventional and complementary treatments for a wide range of conditions.

The Queen is doing very well for a 92-year-old.

The entire Royal Family are strong supporters of homeopathy. People like that can use any medicine money can buy, but they choose homeopathy.

The UK still has a long history of public support of homeopathy and still has four conventional public hospitals which employ homeopathy http://www.the-hma.org/uk-homeopathic-hospitals.html.
India
Picture

The government of India has embraced homeopathy as a safe, effective and cost-effective medical system and encourages its citizens to use it. Homoeopathy in India has been fully integrated into the public health care system. Homeopathy has been formally recognized as medicine. In 1978, a Central Council for Research in
Homoeopathy was established. Uniform Education in Homoeopathy was enforced by the Indian government in 1983.

A large number of hospitals, teaching institutions and registered practitioners are under the Department of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) system. According to recent statistics, there are 3,360 hospitals with 68,155 beds, 21,765 dispensaries, 485 colleges and 725,568 practitioners under AYUSH in India.
At present, homeopathy is the third most popular method of medical treatment in India, after allopathy and ayurveda. There are over 200,000 registered homeopathic doctors, with around 12,000 more joining the profession every year.

According to the Lancet, about 10% of the population of India, approximately 100 million people, depend SOLELY on homeopathy for their health care.
https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(07)61709-7/fulltext

According to a AC Nielsen survey in India, 62% of current homeopathy users have never even tried conventional medicines, and 82% of homeopathy users would not switch to conventional treatments. These people use homeopathic medicines alone in the treatment of many acute and chronic infectious diseases, serious pain syndromes, diverse emotional and mental illnesses, cancers, and heart diseases.

India also uses homeopathy for the prevention of disease in the form of homeoprophylaxis (HP). India has employed HP effectively for cholera, H1N1 influenza, conjunctivitis, chickenpox and dengue fever and chikungunya.

Researchers at the Government Homoeopathic Medical College in Thiruvananthapuram (the capital of the state of Kerala) surveyed families during threatened dengue and chikungunya epidemics from 2003–2006 to assess the protection provided by HP.
https://www.homeobook.com/guidelines-for-epidemic-management-in-homoeopathy/

Of one thousand and five families surveyed in 2003, almost nine in ten took HP for prevention of dengue; of those taking HP, only 14 percent (123/869) went on to contract dengue. In a follow-up study in 2006 of the prophylactic efficacy of HP for chikungunya, the college found a comparable 82 percent efficacy.
https://www.homeobook.com/pdf/efficacy-chiunguna-kerala.pdf

India also conducted the largest study in the world to date using homeoprophylaxis. This study was conducted between 1999 and 2004 for the prevention of Japanese Encephalitis and involved 20 million children from Andra Pradesh.

Within 5 years of administering a yearly homeoprophylaxis regimen to all of these 20 million children, deaths declined from approximately nearly 1000 per year to zero within five years and the incidence rate subsequently also declined to zero, please see chart below.

Cuba
Picture

Cuba used and researched homeoprophylaxis widely for about ten years between 2004-2014. In 2010, 2.3 million people were successfully treated with a homeopathic remedy to prevent Leptospirosis, a zoonotic, water-born bacterial infection with high transmissibility during monsoon season.
(Bracho G, Vareal E, et al, Large-scale application of highly-diluted bacteria for Leptospirosis epidemic control, Homeopathy. 2010 Jul;99(3):156-66. doi: 10.1016/j.homp.2010.05.009.) https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20674839

The remedy was made from four different strains of Leptospirosis bacteria and administered orally to 2.3 million in endemic provinces.

“After the homeoprophylactic intervention a significant decrease of the disease incidence was observed in the intervention regions. No such modifications were observed in non-intervention regions. In the intervention region the incidence of Leptospirosis fell below the historic median. This observation was independent of rainfall.”

The authors concluded: “The homeoprophylactic approach was associated with a large reduction of disease incidence and control of the epidemic. The results suggest the use of HP as a feasible tool for epidemic control, further research is warranted.”
Concerns about homeopathic remedies made from a serious, lethal infection
Dr. Bonnie Henry stated:

"It's hard for me to believe as a physician that anything that was made from a very serious lethal infection … would have any therapeutic benefit.”

Dr. Henry is a staunch advocate of vaccination as we all know. Now, the last time I checked, vaccines were still made from substances that can cause very serious, lethal infections, including polio, pertussis, meningitis and rabies among them.

The rabies vaccine can be given prophylactically as well as post-exposure, which could be considered at least semi-therapeutic if one wanted to be very specific and did not want to consider the prevention of disease therapeutic. Said vaccine contains the actual killed virus, likely hundreds if not thousands of viral particles per dose, plus various chemicals and heavy metals in most cases. All vaccines made from pathogens contain the weakened or dead pathogen or parts of it.

The homeopathic remedy which I gave to the child in question was indeed made from the saliva of a rabid dog, but it did not contain any viral particles whatsoever. No molecules of saliva either, if you must know.

So in Dr. Henry’s educated opinion then it seems appropriate to inject substances containing very serious, lethal, infectious agents directly into the blood stream of children and adults in BC, but to give a homeopathic remedy made from the same disease, not containing any of the original pathogens and administered orally, is somehow dangerous and incomprehensible?

Could we not do better for a top public health doctor? Does this constitute logical thinking? Not a good indicator of problem-solving either as she could have done something as simple as call the BC Homeopathic Association, the Naturopathic College or, heaven forbid, my office to ask me, the person directly involved, about the topic in question before embarrassing BC on the world scene by making such uneducated public statements.
The use of homeopathy for the treatment of behavioural disorders
"I also have concerns that this would be used for treating what sounds very much like a behavioural issue in a young child."

"I have concerns that parents may want this type of treatment for their children, and delay accessing real treatments that may help them for some very severe conditions," she said.

The child in question in fact presented with a behavioural issue, which was successfully treated with the homeopathic remedy I prescribed. A few doses of 2 pellets each over several months did the job. Cost of the actual remedy? Less than $5.00 in total.

Behavioural issues or disorders are usually very treatable with homeopathy. I have treated hundreds of children with a wide variety of behavioural disorders over the past 27 years. Most naturopaths and homeopaths treat children with behavioural disorders, it’s not uncommon at all.

Meanwhile children as young as two are now routinely prescribed stimulants, antidepressants and even antipsychotics in conventional practice. The number of children being started on antipsychotics, for example, has increased exponentially, with prescriptions increasing 18-fold in BC alone between 1996 and 2011. In addition, across Canada, prescription rose 114% between 2005-2009 alone. https://www.pressreader.com/canada/vancouver-sun/20170717/281496456333997
http://www.vancouversun.com/health/family-child/concerns+about+antipsychotics+children/7785175/story.html

By 2013, Health Canada had already received 17 fatality reports and 73 reports of ‘cardio-metabolic’ reactions in children causing dramatic weight gain, high blood pressure and sugar abnormalities.

Antipsychotic medication use in children - better than homeopathy? Anke Zimmermann, homeopathy, Sooke

"Dr. David Juurlink, a specialist in internal medicine and head of clinical pharmacology and toxicology at Toronto’s Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre stated that Second-Generation Antipsychotic Drug) SGA's, can cause a range of neurological side effects within hours or days of starting treatment, including acute dystonia, (sudden, involuntary spasms) as well as a 30-fold higher risk of 'metabolic syndrome', a cluster of conditions that increase the risk of heart disease and stroke."

"Another side effect called antipsychotic-induced akathisia, (Greek “not to sit”) can cause extreme restlessness and fidgeting, rocking while sitting or standing or marching on the spot. The side effect is sometimes mistaken as a symptom of the underlying condition," said Dr. Juurlink.”
Good stuff, why would any parent NOT want this wonderful medicine for their child, pray tell?

There is now an entire clinic at BC Children’s Hospital in Vancouver just dedicated to treating children who suffer side effects from antipsychotics, including diabetes, high blood pressure and obesity, called the Provincial Mental Health Metabolic Program. Just take a look at this pretty brochure http://www.bcchildrens.ca/mental-health-services-site/Documents/Metabolic%20Program%20Brochure.pdf.

The clinic is staffed with a Child Psychiatrist, Pediatric Endocrinologist, Dietitian, Physiotherapist and Nurse Practitioner. Talk about a waste of money! Instead of treating these children with homeopathy and nutrition, they are given potent antipsychotic drugs which lead to serious and potentially life-changing side effects which require more public resources to address. Is this good medicine?

I suppose Dr. Henry would prefer to see children on these potent drugs with a high risk of serious and potentially fatal side effects rather than have them take a homeopathic remedy which is completely safe and entirely free of side effects and which also addresses the underlying cause of the problem rather than just masking the symptom. In the case in question for example, my patient had experienced a personality and behavioural change after being bitten by a dog. It took me all of 10 minutes to figure out the correct remedy. A few questions and that was it. Case solved and possibly permanently too.

There can be many causes for behavioural problems in children, the good clinician tries to identify them and treat accordingly, which is what I did and what every physician and especially pediatrician should and could do rather than just giving the latest darling of the pharmaceutical industry; they just need proper training in homeopathy.

But Dr. Henry went on record to distort the truth and to discourage parents from seeking out a natural alternative that does not cause diabetes or heart disease in their toddler. She also seems to think that parents are not intelligent enough to change approach if any treatment, natural or drugs, might not work.

Most children I have treated have already had other treatments, whether they were medications or behavioural interventions. Homeopathic practitioners are often the last resort, not the first, unfortunately, and then the child has to be treated for the accumulation of side effects of their conventional treatment in addition to the original problem.
Other Research and Topics in Homeopathy Relevant to BC
I want to mention just two other areas where homeopathy could greatly alleviate burdens on the health care system in BC. There are many other areas for which homeopathy could be useful in and save billions of health care dollars, including trauma and emergency medicine and Intensive Care Units, generally assumed to be bastions of modern medicine, but I am trying not to write an entire book here.
Please, for anyone reading this, feel free to contact me, I have many resources that I’m happy to share.
Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA)
MRSA - homeopathy could be useful. Anke Zimmermann, homeopathy, Sooke, BC

MRSA, also known as a ‘super bug’ (one of the ones that can cause flesh-eating disease), is a type of Staph bacteria that has become resistant to many antibiotics, including methicillin, penicillin, and amoxicillin, and is thus more difficult to treat.

According to the BC CDC, MRSA often lives on the skin or in the nose of healthy people without causing symptoms. It can, however, cause skin and other infections. Most infections are minor, such as pimples and boils. Serious infections - such as severe wound infections, pneumonia, or septicemia (infection in the bloodstream) - can result in life-threatening illness or, if left untreated, death.
Those with weakened immune systems and chronic illnesses are more susceptible to developing an infection.

MRSA is a serious problem in BC as the Health Care Associated Infections Surveillance Report with published by the Provincial Infection Control Network of BC published in March of this year clearly demonstrates:
https://www.picnet.ca/wp-content/uploads/PICNET_MRSA_Surveillance_Report_Q3_2017-18.pdf

Between March of 2017 and March of 2018 2,134 new cases were identified in BC, 969 of which were associated with the reporting facility, causing a total of 2,060,870 inpatient days. More than 2 million days that we, the taxpayers paid for, as a result of the staph bacteria becoming resistant to antibiotics!

I would say that this constitutes a significant burden on the system in all regards.
Conventional prevention focuses on hygiene and sanitation as infection control measures, which of course are excellent ideas, but obviously not enough. Resistance to antibiotics is a major public health concern worldwide – and also one created by conventional medicine.

New treatment options are needed and homeopathy is one potential such option. A recent in-vitro study done in Brazil examined the effect of a homeopathic preparation of Belladonna and a nosode prepared from a multi-drug resistant strain of MRSA on the same bacteria. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/28325220.

The researchers assessed in vitro bacterial growth and also in vitro bacterial growth with the added oxacillin. All values were compared to control: 30% alcohol and water.
Results showed that in vitro growth of MRSA was statistically significantly inhibited in the presence of Bell 6CH and nosode 30CH compared to controls (p < 0.0001); and with combination of Bell 6C and nosode 30CH and oxacillin.

The researchers concluded that cultures of MRSA treated with Belladonna or MRSA nosode exhibited reduced growth in vitro, reduced enzymatic activity and became more vulnerable to the action of the antibiotic oxacillin.

I’d say a homeopathic remedy made from MRSA and a little Belladonna to have on hand for such infections in our hospitals and other care facilities would make sense, or at least to conduct a study. The remedies are inexpensive and very safe, so why not use them?
This published case report may also be of interest. It’s only one person, but it is hopeful https://www.explorejournal.com/article/S1550-8307(09)00280-8/fulltext.

The residents of BC deserve to have access to all options that can help to prevent and treat MRSA and we deserve to have a PHO that works for the people, not for the pharmaceutical industry.
The Opioid Crisis
Opioid crisis - homeopathy could help, Anke Zimmermann, homeopathy, Sooke, BC

As we all know, BC is experiencing an active opioid crisis. More than 1400 people died from overdoses last year alone and the trend is continuing. A significant number of opioid addicts were started down this path by prescription opioids as a treatment for post-surgical and related pain.

If homeopathy would be widely used to treat post-surgical pain I believe the use of opiods could be greatly reduced.
Arnica is a well-known homeopathic remedy for traumatic injuries, including surgery. Research has been done as this review of 59 published studies on Arnica demonstrates: Effectiveness and Safety of Arnica Montana in Post-Surgical Setting, Pain and Inflammation: https://pdfs.semanticscholar.org/f2df/aa69e0b6c2c6ecda36c3ed48b9d9289d4fa0.pdf

The results could be far better if higher potencies and more frequent repetition of the Arnica were used and if a couple of other trauma remedies, notably Hypericum and Staphysagria, were added.

My own experience using homeopathic Arnica, Hypericum and Staphysagria in 200CH and 1M potency every few minutes after surgery, both for myself and numerous patients, starting in the recovery room, has shown that this approach can dramatically reduce or even eliminate the use of opioid or any other painkillers.

I have personally undergone several surgeries without the use of any opioids, and hardly any other painkillers, including a bilateral mastectomy and immediate reconstruction as a result of stage 3 breast cancer.

I only needed 2 Tylenols at the end of the first day after a 4-hour surgery, to manage pain, thanks to the homeopathic treatment.

The PHO should advise the Ministers on any and all possibilities to reduce the death toll in this crisis and a good place to start is to not get people addicted to these drugs in the first place.

Again, by failing to consider and promote homeopathy as an effective and cost-effective treatment, Dr. Henry is failing in her role as PHO in several areas.
Actions required
I would like to I strongly support your ministry taking the suggested steps as outlined in Mr. Kuntz’s letter, most urgently.  In order to rectify these failures and indiscretions by the PHO, I call for the following actions including:

That the PHO be asked to publicly retract her public comments regarding homeopathy and an admission of her lack of knowledge at a press conference

That the PHO be asked to undergo remedial education in homeopathy, at least 100 hours and ideally be treated by a homeopath in order to experience homeopathy first-hand.

A commitment by the Ministry of Health and the PHO to take positive steps to honour the Beijing Declaration to promote the safe and effective use of traditional medicine (i.e. natural medicine and therapies). This includes taking key steps to integrate natural medicines and therapies into national healthcare systems.

The Minister of Health strike an independent advisory committee to work with the PHO to address the epidemic of autism and other neurological and immunological disorders as well as the increasing use of allopathic drugs for the treatment of children with behavioural disorders. The committee ought to include allied health professionals including Naturopathic Doctors, Homeopaths, Chiropractors and Registered Holistic Nutritionists (RHN).

Respectfully,

Dr. Anke Zimmermann, ND, FCAH

I agree in principal with Anke and support her in her search for Justice and of discriminatory remarks from a DR. who should know better and not attack a person who is a helper and a healer. The Dr. is in my opinion here to help and support us the injured and vulnerable not maligne, defame, discriminate against those helping and supporting us who are in need. Especially when the person or group are licensed and working within the law. Bob Martin GBS Survivor ://vaccineinjurycompensationcanada.weebly.com/

Thank you for having the courage to fight for freedom of medical choice. This rising wave of scientific fundamentalism, which would have us believe that there is only one acceptable form of medical therapy (conventional medicine), must not be tolerated. Medical self-determination is a basic human right.

Thank you for an excellent article, you explained everything so clearly in 'layman's terms', normally I wouldn't read such a long article, but I was so awed by learning what Homeopathy can heal. I used Arnica before and after an operation, only had 2 tylenol just because they said to, I use EMPowerPlus from TrueHope for depression, works like a charm. Thank you for speaking out and demanding a retraction from the minister of health, thank you!

Naturopath who treated child with rabid dog saliva solution gives up licence

Anke Zimmermann of B.C. was also subject to complaints about homeopathic treatment that claimed to cure autism

Anke Zimmermann will not be allowed to apply for reinstatement with the College of Naturopathic Physicians of B.C. for five years. (CHEK News)

Anke Zimmermann, the Victoria naturopath who drew public attention for treating a child with a homeopathic solution made from rabid dog saliva, has surrendered her licence but says she will continue to act as an unregulated homeopath.

The College of Naturopathic Physicians of B.C. says Zimmermann voluntarily gave up her licence after a "collegiate discussion" with its inquiry committee earlier this month.

At the centre of the discussion was the college's policy on immunization — the college forbids naturopaths from including anti-immunization materials in their advertising, and from counselling patients against vaccination without a properly documented medical rationale.
