"I cannot do anything" muß man SINNGEMÄSS transkribieren. Das bedeutet:
"Ich DARF NICHTS TUN, was..."Ebenso muß
"What good would it do for the Pope" SINNGEMÄSS übertragen werden.

VATICAN CITY.- Just naming Ukraine is enough for Pope Francis to exclaim a categorical phrase: “I am willing to do everything to stop the war. Everything” . His words and his gestures betray that there is no other problem, outside or inside the Church, that now worries him more than Russia's invasion of Ukraine .
"Wars are anachronistic in this world and at this level of civilization," he says, also blunt. He has the same fresh face he had nine years ago, when he was elected pope, but a torn knee ligament hampers his ability to walk and forces him to limp . “It will pass”, he resigns himself, although he does not accept being infiltrated . He prefers to put ice on the affected area and take some painkillers . The doctors assured him that the problem would go away with time. “Ligament recovery is slow at this age,” he explains. “You look great,” I tell him. He answers with his usual irony: "At this age one must settle for being told that it is well preserved". During the meeting with LA NACION he will also refer to the content of a letter to an Argentine communicator in which he pointed out that journalism practices "coprophilia" , which means the taste of smelling excrement.

-Why do you never name Putin or Russia?
-A pope never appoints a head of state, much less a country, which is superior to its head of state.
- Can it be assumed then that there are mediation efforts?
-There are always procedures. The Vatican never rests. I cannot tell you the details because they would cease to be diplomatic efforts. But the attempts will never stop.
Nearby, two cardinals confessed that they hope the first days of May will end much of the war in Ukraine , if not the war itself. It is the information they handle, although none is sure that it will finally happen.

-What did your visit to the Russian embassy in the Vatican mean?
-I went alone. I didn't want anyone to accompany me. It was a personal responsibility of mine. It was a decision I made in a waking night thinking about Ukraine . It is clear to those who want to see it well that he was signaling to the government that it can end the war in the next moment. To be honest, I would like to do something so that there is not one more death in Ukraine. Not one more. And I am willing to do everything .
-Russia says that Ukraine, a neighboring country, was going to join NATO and that this endangered Russian security. Do you think a war is justified just in case?
-All war is anachronistic in this world and at this level of civilization. That is why I also publicly kissed the Ukrainian flag. It was a gesture of solidarity with their dead, with their families and with those who suffer emigration.
-Why did you never go to kyiv, where certainly ordinary people are waiting for you?
-I cannot do anything that puts higher objectives at risk, which are the end of the war, a truce or, at least, a humanitarian corridor. What good would it do for the Pope to go to kyiv if the war continued the next day?

A separate paragraph deserves his relationship with Kirill, the patriarch of Moscow of the Russian Orthodox Church , a religion that maintains a historical tension with the Catholic Church of Rome. Francis is the first pope Patriarch Kirill has agreed to meet . He did not want to do it with the popes John Paul II or with Benedict XVI, pontiffs who also expressed to the patriarch of Moscow their desire to speak with him. The only meeting that Francis and Kirill had was held in a neutral city, in Havana , at the request of the Russian priest. They took advantage of Francisco's trip to Mexico (he made a stopover in Cuba just to meet Kirill), while the patriarch was visiting the island.
-How is your relationship with the patriarch Kirill?
-Very good. I regret that the Vatican has had to hold a second meeting with Patriarch Kirill, which we had scheduled for June in Jerusalem. But our diplomacy understood that a meeting of the two at this time could lead to much confusion. I always promoted interreligious dialogue. When I was Archbishop of Buenos Aires, I brought together Christians, Jews and Muslims in a fruitful dialogue. It was one of the initiatives that I am most proud of. It is the same policy that I promote in the Vatican. As you have heard from me many times, for me agreement is superior to conflict.
-You wrote to a communicator that we journalists like “coprophilia” and it seemed like an accusation to all journalists. A blanket accusation is always an unfair accusation. Do you agree?
-Of course, but I did not make that accusation . What I wanted to do is mark the temptations to which a journalist can be exposed . In the same way, I mark the temptations to which priests, bishops and even popes can be exposed! (Serie). I always speak of journalism as a "noble profession" and I said so to this journalist (by Gustavo Sylvestre). If you thought that all journalists practice coprophilia, you would not be sitting with me today.
-Because we have known each other for 30 years, I was surprised by that description of journalism.
I repeat: I have never made such an accusation against all journalism . I just pointed out the temptations. Actually, the first time I talked about the temptation of "coprophilia" in journalism was 20 years ago at a dinner in Adepa. It seems to me, anyway, that of the four temptations that I mark for journalism (disinformation, slander, defamation and coprophilia) the most serious is not coprophilia, but disinformation . Journalism is a noble profession when it fulfills its mission to inform. Disinformation is the opposite face of information.
Did you authorize the publication of that letter?
-No way. The journalist asked me if he could make it public and I replied that it was better that she did not know each other “so as not to throw kerosene on the fire” . I don't want any doubts. He was only pointing out the temptations to which some journalists may be exposed. It was never an indictment of all journalism.

“I want to see Argentina again”
The Pope does not speak of Argentina. He is tired of his words being twisted in his country. He is definitely tired of being constantly pushed into a crevasse that he never experienced . When he was elected pope, in 2013, the concept of a crack did not yet exist, although a certain division was already evident in Argentine society. Until the moment of his election, the then Archbishop of Buenos Aires was the victim of harassment by the two Kirchner governments . Those who know politics remember in Buenos Aires that Cristina Kirchner reacted very badly when her then detested Cardinal Bergoglio was elected pope. Until she understood that it was better to assume the unchangeable and get closer to him.
-When will you visit Argentina?
-I do not know. Several circumstances must coincide. But I want to see the country again because I never forgot it -, she slips her almost in a whisper, and with a certain nostalgia, shortly before goodbye.
